Yuki Onna

Yuki Onna, literally “snow woman” is a well know Yokai (supernatural spirit) from olden times Japanese folklore. Her story and appearance can vary a lot depending on the area, but she is mainly represented as a beautiful tall woman in a white kimono, her inhumanly pale skin making her blend in snow landscape. My favorite version is from the Yamagata prefecture saying she is a moon princess. On the lunar world, her life was full of luxury but extremely boring. She was fascinated to see planet earth below so she snich out one night and travelled to earth on a snow storm. But she got stuck since then and since then she tends to appear wandering during full moon snowy nights, pining for her old home.
