The Gnome

This mythic being described in alchemists’ occult works is an elemental of Earth. Paracelsus an 16th century alchemist considered them not so much as spirits but as beings between spirits and creatures generally invisible to mankind. The earth is their vital element, they breathe, live and walk through it as we do with air. Therefore they know its secret and are its treasures keepers. They also are animating plants and animals, as soon as they leave them they die. They coud be described as the life essence itself.
